D&T Food Technology at Wade Deacon High School

Course content

This course will allow you to specialise in designing and making activities delivered through food. It will encourage you to become shrewd and critical consumers. You will have the opportunity to design, develop and manufacture saleable food products by applying knowledge and understanding to modify and enhance existing products.  You will learn about and apply a range of manufacturing processes, techniques and industrial practices appropriate to their designs.You will have experienced the following areas by the end of the course:Analysing and evaluating products and processesDeveloping initial proposals to complete a final outcomeEngaging in focused tasks to develop and demonstrate techniquesCarrying out sensory analysis and product disassembly The main purpose of this course is to teach you the skills to design, be creative and to recognise current design trends and movements, whilst becoming informed users of food products. You are encouraged to explore the endless possibilities in taste, aesthetics and presentation. 

Assessment

  Coursework will account for 60% of your final marks, i.e. Designing 20%, Making 40% and a final written examination will account for a further 40%.
