Trees and Timber Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship at Bridgwater College

Course description

This course is ideal for those who wish to gain a Level 3 arboriculture or forestry qualification in the workplace. If you are interested in or are already working within the land-based and environmental sector and specifically the trees and timber industry, this apprenticeship will assist in your progression. It is designed for candidates who wish to develop leadership and management skills and are aspiring to become team leaders in the industry. 

Course content

All candidates will cover a range of units including tree inspections, aerial tree work operations, health and safety, aerial rescue and managing teams in the work place.  In addition candidates can also choose discreet units which are particularly suitable for their work place activities. Examples of optional units include tree climbing, emergency tree work operations, site preparation and tree planting, tree felling or rigging.

Entry requirements

You must source industry employment for a minimum of 30 hours a week and have an apprenticeship agreement which is signed by yourself and your employer.

The entry requirements for the Advanced Apprenticeship in Trees and Timber is flexible, however, one of the following or an equivalent qualification/experience must be completed:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship in Trees and Timber
  • Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Trees and Timber
  • NVQ Level 2 in Forestry or Arboriculture
  • Level 2 Award for an Advanced Ground-based Operator (Felling, Individual Uprooted Trees and Multiple Windblown Trees)
  • Level 2 Award in Techniques for Dealing with Damaged Trees
  • Practical experience within the trees and timber industry
  • 3 GCSEs (A*-C)/A Levels.

Future opportunities

Level 4 horticulture

You will receive careers guidance throughout your apprenticeship including possible training progression routes to improve your technical knowledge or widen your interests. Your earning potential increases as you gain higher academic qualifications. The natural step up from your level 3 apprenticeship is a higher education programme. We currently offer such programmes in horticulture.
