International A Level Programme at York College

Course description

Long seen as the gold standard of the English Education system, A Levels are accepted by all UK universities and remain the qualification of choice for the majority of British students wishing to progress to higher education. By studying our International A Level Programme you will choose from over 40 A Level subjects taught at the College and be given extra tuition in English language, British Culture and general study skills.

Course content

If you choose the full International A Level Programme you will study three or four A Levels over two years. You will do this in regular classes with local students. However, we also recognise that International Students have unique needs and require extra support in certain areas. In recognition of this our course also includes English Language, British Culture and study skills.

Entry requirements

  • Aged 16 years or more on the day the course starts
  • IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 in all areas.
  • Good High School grades. Guidance for specific countries is available here
  • Course duration: Two years – September year one to July year two
  • Next start date: September 2016

A Levels are assessed by external examination boards and result in the award of a formal A Level qualification. These qualifications are recognised by all universities in the UK and remain the qualification of choice for the majority of people applying to undergraduate courses. Typically students will complete three or four A Levels.

In addition, some students may also choose to study for the IELTS English language assessment. This is widely recognised by UK universities and internationally.
