Course description

If you want to pursue a career within the public services then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to develop your skills and understanding of public services, giving you a variety of opportunities.
Successful completion of this course could allow you to progress to a Level 3 Public Services programme or in to a career in the Public Services e.g. Royal Navy, Royal Marines, The Army, Royal Air Force, Ambulance Service, Police Service, Prison Service, Customs and Exercise, Coastguards.
During this course, you will explores theoretically and practically the following topics at an appropriate level: Employment in the Uniformed Public Services; Public Service Skills; Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services; Land Navigation by Map and Compass; Expedition Skills in Public Services; Career Planning for the Public Services; Adventurous Activities and Team Work for the Public Services.


Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs to include 3 from: English, Mathematics, Science and PE (minimum grade D), or a Merit on BTEC Level 1 Public Services for internal applicants. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report) along with evidence of specific sustained interest and motivation in public services, and an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.


Assessment is a combination of coursework, presentations and practical tests / observations and building up a portfolio of evidence.
