Product Design: Textiles at Little Heath School

Course description

An A Level Textiles course is not justabout making dresses.Textiles studentswill learn skills working with fabric toproduce their own creative outcomes,stretching their imagination andunderstanding of textiles.You will lookat a variety of topics including fashion,fashion illustration, the textiles industryand its advances in medicine and sportperformance, even the function of textilesin surprising areas such as construction.

Textiles students will also learn about avariety of traditions and cultures aroundthe world and their role in influencing thedesigners of the biggest trends of today.

Entry requirements

You will need a good set of Grade A*-C GCSE passes in a range of subjects. Although a GCSE in a Technology subject is an advantage, it is not compulsory. It is much more important that you enjoy working on long term creative projects in a design context.You should have a passion for discovering new trends and influences on clothing and other items, and be keen to advance your knowledge of designers, practical skills and industrial developments in order to develop your own creativity and expertise in design and making.
