Drama and Theatre Studies at Uplands Community College School Sixth Form

Course description

This course emphasises Drama as a practical, intellectual and artistic subject.

Course content

As well as providing practical opportunities to act, direct and produce drama, the course enables students to become reflective theatrical practitioners and researchers through a wide range of reading, discussion and experimentation.  An ability to work with other students and to perform in front of audiences is essential.  This course requires commitment to extra rehearsals in preparation for practical exams.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C grades at GCSE including grade B or above in English Language and Literature and grade B in Drama.  In some cases, we will accept a student without a GCSE Drama grade onto the course.

Assessment

Students will keep a record of their research and practical class work, which will be assessed as coursework, as well as completing practical and written examinations.

Future opportunities

Students studying Drama at Uplands have successfully combined this with a wide range of courses including English Literature, History and Languages, as well as Maths and Sciences and other practical and creative subjects.  Students have gone on to study theatrical courses as well as other degrees, including English, Law, and French.
