A2 Drama & Theatre Studies at The Beacon School
It is useful to have taken GCSE Drama but not essential. It is important that you are interested in gaining a greater understanding of how theatre and plays work and that you are keen to be involved with performance. The course demands practical, creative and communications skills in almost equal measure. You will extend your ability to create drama and theatre in a performing role. You will also be required to write about drama and to develop your powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in drama productions as well as studying plays and playwrights. You need to be curious about issues and ideas and have a creative instinct for communicating your views through drama. You may be keen on acting, writing or on the visual and technical side of theatre and wish to develop your skills in some or all of these areas. Equally you will be interested in gong to the theatre to see plays performed by different theatre companies.
You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which could be related to the performing arts, to prepare for higher education in the arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre industries. You may also like to look at joining a theatre group to increase your drama and theatre experience. The course offers a distinct subject content which provides you with the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers from lots of industries are looking for.
