Extended Diploma in Engineering - Level 3 at South Thames College

Course description

This course prepares you for university-level courses and a career in engineering roles such as product and process design, mechanical engineering and manufacturing. It's ideal if you're interested in working in the mechanical or manufacturing engineering industry or want to study engineering at a higher level. You can use our electronics labs, computer-aided design (CAD) suites, workshops and science labs.

Course content

The units and projects cover a range of engineering skills and include:

  • Communications
  • Mechanical principles
  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Business operations in engineering
  • Engineering drawing/CAD
  • Engineering machining
  • Fabrication processes
  • Engineering design
  • Engineering materials
  • Applications of mechanical systems and technology
  • CNC machining
  • Further maths
  • Health and safety.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs A*-C including maths, with English A*-D; OR a relevant Level 2 diploma at least at merit plus English and maths assessed by us to be at an appropriate level.

Assessment

Continual assessment and you must pass all units.

Future opportunities

You could go on to a university-level course or take up employment or apprenticeship opportunities across the engineering sector.
