Course description

AS Level

Unit 1 - An introduction to Physical Education. Students will
study anatomy and physiology, acquiring movement skills and
socio-cultural studies relating to participation in physical activity.
Assessed by a two hour exam paper. Worth 70%.

Unit 2 - Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in
Physical Education. Students will be assessed in two different
sporting activities. They will also be assessed on their ability to
evaluate the performance of a live performer and plan how they
would improve their performance.
Assessed in two sports, marked by the school and moderated by
an external examiner. Worth 30%.
A2 Level
Unit 3 - This unit has two sections:
Section A: Socio-Cultural
Section B: Scientific Option
Students will study historical issues, sports psychology and
exercise and sport physiology.
Assessed by a two and a half hour paper. Worth 70%.
Unit 4 - Students will be assessed in one sporting activity. They
will also be assessed on their ability to evaluate the performance
of a live performer and plan how they would improve their
performance using relative theoretical concepts from all areas of
the course.
Assessed in one sport, marked by the school and moderated by
an external examiner. Worth 30%.

Entry requirements

Students will be expected to have at least grade B in GCSE Science and a B in Mathematics. Students taking AS Level Mathematics will be at a slight advantage.
