A2 Level: Art and Design (Graphics) at King Edward VII Science and Sport College, Coalville
The aims of the course are to enable you to creatively explore and develop your interest in Graphic Design. You will be actively encouraged to work independently and originally to develop your own graphic style and visuals for presentation of your work. The course inspires you to think about the way society communicates through graphics, and how we can influence this through considered design solutions. You can develop design ideas for magazine covers, posters, CD and DVD covers, business cards and advertisements, packaging for all sorts of products—clothing, perfume, toys, music or food. It will give you the opportunity to experiment with many types of media, ranging from CAD/CAM routers to more traditional design techniques.
5 GCSE grades A*-C, including a grade C in a design subject
Unit 3 Personal investigation = 50% of your final AS Grade (25% of A level grade)
Unit 4 Terminal Examination = 50% of your final AS Grade (25% of A level grade)
Whilst in Year 13, plan for your future there are three routes you could take; Art & Design Foundation Studies, Direct Entry to a Degree of your choice or Apprenticeship. What is a Foundation Course? This is a course to prepare you for the Design degree of your choice. It is a 1 year Full Time course of study. It is the first year of a specialist Arts Education.

In the public sector, jobs exist in museums, local authorities, schools, colleges and hospitals. The Media industry requires graphic designers to designs, produces and sells visual entertainment. It covers films, animation, TV programs, videos, web and pod casts, DVDs and an ever growing range of interactive media.
