Mathematics at Ryde Academy

Course description

The AS comprises three teaching and learning modules and the A2 comprises a further three teaching and learning modules. The AS level is completed in the first year of study. It consists of three units: 2 pure units and Mechanics. In the second year of study another three units are completed. These will include two more pure units and one applied. There is the option to specialise in either mechanics or take another applied unit.

 

Course content

Core 1 Algebra, Coordinate Geometry,  Differentiation,  Integration

Core 2 Algebra and Functions, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry ,Exponentials and logarithms,  Differentiation, Integration

Mechanics 1 Mathematical Modelling,  Kinematics in One and Two Dimensions, Statics and Forces,  Momentum,  Newton’s Laws of Motion,  Connected Particles Projectiles

Entry requirements

Grade B in maths plus a grade C in English and science

Assessment

100% Exam

Future opportunities

Students with an interest in Business studies will find this fits well with their courses.  Most pure Economics courses at Degree level will expect you to have A2 Maths.  Students hoping to pursue careers in science or medicine will also benefit from studying Mathematics at AS/A2 Level.
