Geography A Level at Northgate High School

Course description

AS Level consists of 2 units: Landscape and Place – Coastal Landscapes and Changing Spaces and Geographical Debates – one from the following: Climate Change, Disease Dilemmas, Exploring Oceans, Future of Food or Hazardous Earth.

AS Level consists of 2 units: Physical Systems – Coastal Landscapes and Earth’s Life Support Systems; Human Interactions – Changing Spaces and Global Migration & Human Rights; Geographical Debates – two from the following: Climate Change, Disease Dilemmas, Exploring Oceans, Future of Food or Hazardous Earth and Investigative Geography – an independent investigation in the form of a written report.

Course content

A wide range of resources are used to create an interesting and varied learning environment. Fieldwork is an integral part of the course and there is the opportunity to participate in a residential fieldtrip as well a number of day visits

Entry requirements

Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade B in Geography, or for students who have not studied GCSE Geography, grade 6 in English Language.

Future opportunities

Degrees in Geography, Bio-geography, Planning, Environmental Science, Conservation, Meteorology and Development Studies, leading to careers in a wide and varied number of professions
