Film Studies A Level at Northgate High School

Course description

Students will closely analyse six films set by WJEC. Three films will be on the topic of American Mainstream and Independent Film, both past and present. Three further films will be under the umbrella of British and European Cinema, again, both past and present. These topics will consider the relationship between film production and audiences, narrative and genre. Students will also have an opportunity to create a film extract or write a screenplay as part of their coursework.

Entry requirements

Subject specific entry requirements: GCSE grade 4 in English Language or English Literature

Assessment

The course is assessed by a mixture of examined and coursework components.

Future opportunities

Suitable for those interested in further education in many subjects including Literature, Language, History, Sociology, Art, Photography, and Media and Cultural Studies courses at a degree level. It may be useful for a career in television, film, radio and journalism.
