What does the AS specification consist of and how is it assessed?During their study at AS Level students will cover biological molecules and cells, digestion, transport and disease. Genetics, adaptation and classification. Assessment:Unit 1 Biology and disease exam (33%)Unit 2 The Variety of Living Organisms exam (47%)Unit 3 Investigative and Practical Skills in AS Biology investigation and exam (20%)What does the A2 specification consist of and how is it assessed?At A2 the following topics are studied:Biochemical pathways, photosynthesis and respiration, co-ordination, genetic expression and cloning; ecosystems and mans influence on the environment. The AS modules combine with the modules in A2 to make up the full A2 qualification.Unit 4 Populations and Environment exam (33% of the A2)Unit 5 Control in cells and organisms exam (47% of the A2)Unit 6 Investigative and practical skills in A2 Biology investigation and exam (20% of the A2)
A* to B GSCE in Biology and A* to C in English and Maths
What might I use this qualification for?Biology is a very useful subject, both for career development and further education.When studied with another science subject, the opportunities are vast and the choice of degree or career is immense, ranging from Medicine, Veterinary science, Equine science and Engineering to Law, Teaching and Management.Biology also adds breadth when combined with other subjects such as Art, Humanities or Languages
