Sport BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Football Excellence) at Bedford College
The Bedford College Football Excellence Scheme is run in partnership with AFC Kempston. You will study a Sport Development, Coaching & Fitness Level 3 Diploma, while receiving six hours of professional coaching a week, representing Bedford College in the English Colleges Football League. The course will offer opportunities to trial for regional and international teams, as well as progression into senior football. You will also be able to study to achieve a range of additional qualifications, including the opportunity to retake Maths and English GCSEs.
This course will focus on various aspects of sporting opportunities, such as fitness training and sports psychology, while also giving you advanced knowledge about anatomy and physiology of the human body.
In the first year of the course you can study the following units:
- Principles of Anatomy & Physiology in Sport
- Physiology of Fitness
- Assessing Risk in Sport
- Fitness Training & Programming
- Fitness Testing
- Practical Team Sport
- Sports Nutrition
- Exercise, Health & Lifestyle
- Instructing Physical Activity & Exercise
- Sports Injuries.
In the second year of the course you can study the following units:
- Sports Coaching
- Sports Development
- Practical Individual Sport
- Current Issues in Sport
- Leadership in Sport
- Exercise for Specific Groups
- Psychology for Sports Performance
- Analysis of Sport Performance
- Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport.
In addition to the main qualification you will also be given the opportunity to go on a range of trips, including scuba-diving, skiing, snowboarding, paintballing, camping, a football tour, a basketball tour or a rugby tour. At the end of June you will be invited to attend the Sports department Oscars awards evening, giving you the chance celebrate a successful year.
To begin this course you will need four GCSEs at grade C or above (including English) or a Level 2 Diploma. You must also have a good standard of football, as you will be selected for the course at a trial.
All BTEC work will be assessed through assignments, which can consist of written essays, presentations, group discussion, practical observation and poster production. Function Skills will be assessed through formal exams.
On successful completion of this course you can progress onto higher-level study, such as a foundation or university degree. You will also be well-equipped to pursue career opportunities in the sports industry.
To take part in this course you will be required to pay a fee of £75 for required clothing/uniform. You will need to spend £50 to attend trips that will complement your course.
