Site Carpentry - Level 2 Diploma at Harrow College

Course description

An opportunity for any individual to gain a nationally recognised certificate in the construction industry who has either already achieved the Level One Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery or is currently working on site and wants to gain a qualification to validate their onsite experience.

Course content

Practical & theory elements: This course will give you the skills you need to work on site, as well as the bench skills needed for a workshop-based role, giving you the flexibility to progress in to a wider range of jobs in the construction industry. You'll develop the tool skills related to the trade and you'll learn all the techniques, gaining hands-on experience of fitting and installing joinery items, constructing complex roof structures and all aspects of first and second fix carpentry.

Health, Safety & Welfare in Construction. Principles of building construction, information & communication. Carry out first fix flooring & roofing. Carry out first fix frames partitions & stairs Carry out second fix. Carry out carpentry maintenance. Set up and operate a circular table saw.

Through classroom and workshop delivery.

Entry requirements

Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery - Pass. GCSEs mainly C-Ds including English and/or Maths or Functional Skills English and/or Maths at Entry Level 3, or sufficient onsite carpentry experience.


Assessment is through completion of a portfolio containing your theory and practical task assessments.

Future opportunities

Progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry or employment. We'll also grant you access to our excellent partnerships with local employers and trade links, providing work experience and apprenticeship opportunities across London.

Equipment or materials:

You will need an A4 file, paper, writing/drawing equipment and a 300mm rule. You will also need safety footwear.

Additional costs:

Overalls and boots can be purchased from Whitefriars Training Centre (Tudor road, Harrow HA35PQ).
