Hospitality BTEC L2 Diploma at Southport College

Course description

The Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality is an introduction to hospitality and provides an exciting and varied programme of applied learning. The course introduces learners to topics such as Food Preparation and Cooking, Food Service, Healthier Food and Special Diets, Accommodation Services, Contemporary World Food as well as covering core elements such as Customer Service, Workplace Skills and Health and Safety. 

The course offers learners the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques and personal skills and attributes that are essential for successful performance in the hospitality industry

Course content

You will study:

Practical on the job skills which are recognised throughout the hospitality industry. This may include:
Waiting on in our fourth floor restaurant 'Clouds'
Menu and Event planning for a themed evening


The course consists of different units which include some of the following
Investigate the Catering and Hospitality Industry
Products, Services and Support in the Hospitality Industry
Principles of Customer Service in Hospitality
Providing Customer Service in Hospitality
Planning and Running a Hospitality Event
Healthier Food and Special Diets
Applying Workplace Skills
Prepare, Cook and Finish Food
Contemporary World Food
Service of Food at Table
Service of Drinks
Hospitality Front Office Operations
Bookkeeping for Business
Consumer Rights
The UK Travel and Tourism Sector

Students are also requred to study Functional Skills in Maths,English and IT.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grade D or Level 1 Diploma in related subject. Successful interview and suitable reference.

For students who have not yet achieved a grade C in Maths or English it is compulsory to study either Functional Skills or GCSE in each relevant subject. Attendance at these sessions are a vital part of your course to enhance your employability skills and prospects.

Assessment

This qualification is a taught lead programme and will be delivered mainly in a classroom environment, however, there may be opportunities to complete and undertake this in our training restaurant or in your workplace.
You will be assessed via practical and theoretical assignments for each unit

Future opportunities

Progress onto a Level 3 route at Southport College, either Btec L3 diploma in Hospitality or L3 Extended Diploma in Hospitality
