Complementary Therapies CG Diploma Level 3 at Cornwall College

Course description

This 1 year course is for anyone with an interest in becoming a professional Complimentary massage therapist. This diploma is a recognised and accepted qualification in both complementary and alternative therapy industries. It is also suitable for students who are new to the subject.

Course content

This course covers everything you need to know to get started as a massage therapist. You will be learning in our purpose-built salons, open to the public and training under supervision of industry professionals.

One day per week work experience is mandatory.

During the course, you will learn various techniques and skills which are used by massage therapists. You will develop the confidence and understanding of these techniques which will prepare you to work in a beauty salon. You will also collect case studies and reflect on your own practice.

You will be required to attend college for approximately 12 hours per week over 2  days per week for a full academic year. During this time you will study the following:

  • Body Massage for Complementary Therapies
  • Provide Aromatherapy
  • Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology   
  • Provide Reflexology
  • Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies
  • Health, Safety and Hygiene for Complementary Therapies
  • Business Practice

You will be expected to study the underpinning knowledge alongside salon sessions; however emphasis is placed on practical learning. As there is significant theory to this subject, students will also be expected to study at home outside of college hours.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements are 3 GCSE at grade C or above. As with all beauty professions, you will need to create the right impression with your clients and must therefore be professional, courteous and discreet. Excellent communication skills are essential.

This is an intensive, knowledge-based course and we do look for enthusiasm and motivation to succeed on the course.

The Complementary and Alternative Therapies industry is a developing and growing market and successful completion of this course will widen your future career prospects.

It is always an advantage to offer as many different treatments as possible to your clients, so once you have achieved your level 3 in Complimentary Therapies, we would recommend that you enhance your knowledge base and develop your skills by progressing onto other courses at Cornwall College.

Our other specialist massage qualifications include;  Sports Massage level 3 and 4 or you could diversify into other relevant qualifications such as VRQ beauty therapy or Spa Therapy
