Maths with Further Maths (as 2 A-Levels) at The King's Academy

Course description

An extension of the single A-Level, continuing Pure Mathematics to early Degree level, plus the opportunity to gain a broader mathematical outlook by studying the alternative application module, Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Maths.

Content of course

1. Core 1-4 As for the single A-Level.

2. Further Pure 1 (FP1) Coordinate systems; summation series; complex numbers; numerical solution of equations; matrices.

3. Further Pure 2 (FP2) Inequalities; differentiation; integration; Maclaurin and Taylor series; polar coordinates; first order differential equations; second order differential equations.

Plus six more modules, dependant on the interests of the group, but most likely to include Mechanics 1-3, Statistics 1-3, Further Pure 3 and Decision Maths 1& 2. The choice of which modules to choose at A2 level depends on the preference of the group.

Year 12 students will start S1 as part of the single AS Level, and M1 as part of the Further Mathematics AS Level.

Entry requirements

At least a grade A at GCSE.
