Mathematics AS/A2 at Mangotsfield School

Course description

This course is suitable for those that have a flair and
interest in the subject and are keen to develop their
range of Mathematical skills and techniques at a higher
level. Students may wish to pursue Mathematics to
University level or may wish to develop their Mathematics
to use in other curriculum areas, such as Engineering or
Physics.
The course is split into a number of units - 3 units must
be taken for AS and then a further 3 for A2.
AS Units taken are Core Maths 1, Core Maths 2 and
Statistics 1
C1 Includes Indices and surds, Polynomials, Coordinate
geometry and graphs, Differentiation, Integration
C2 Includes Trigonometry, Sequences and series, Algebra,
Integration
S1 Includes Representation of data, Probability, Discrete
random variables, Bivariate data
A2 Units taken are Core Maths 3, Core Maths 4 and
Mechanics 1
C3 Includes Algebra and functions, Trigonometry,
Differentiation and Integration, Numerical methods
C4 Includes Algebra and graphs, Differentiation and
Integration, Differential equations, Vectors
M1 Includes Force as a vector, Equilibrium of a particle,
Kinematics of motion in a straight line, Newtons
Laws of motion, Linear momentum.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B in Mathematics. (Grade A preferable).
