Massage Therapy (Level 3) at New College Swindon

Course description

This VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage Therapy (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a holistic massage therapist. It will suit anyone with a keen interest in Health and Complementary Therapies and those interested in a career in a commercial beauty salon, destination spa or day spas as an employee or a self-employed therapist working mobile, or home-based.

Course content

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a massage therapist with mandatory units which include the following:

  • Body massage,
  • Pre-blended aromatherapy,
  • Stone therapy,
  • Indian head massage.

Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety, client care and interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients. To support the practical skills learned throughout this qualification you will also study in detail, anatomy and physiology, some of which will require home study.

Entry requirements

As a level 3 course you will be expected to hold a minimum of 5 grade C GCSE’s including English and maths. Have recognised industry qualifications in the Holistic/Beauty sector and a record of good time management. We welcome applications from adult learners with prior subject knowledge at the required level and from those who wish to refresh their skills.

As part of the course you will practice all treatments and applications with other learners, so you should be prepared to take part in giving and receiving all treatments.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed through the observation of practical work and several online examinations which cover anatomy and physiology and the technical skills of most units. The information gathered will build into your own portfolio of evidence.

In addition you will study extra qualifications to support your main course aim and have the opportunity to work in realistic settings with clients. Please be aware to support your qualification aims some units may require you to bring in clients to practise specific treatments prior to assessment.

Applicants should note that there are a significant number of mandatory case studies and portfolio building activities required to complete this qualification, some of which will need to be carried out in your own time and to a strict deadline.

You will work closely with your tutor who will regularly check and discuss your progress. All students will complete an initial assessment at their first session.
