Art & Design BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Brooklands College
This course is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations within the art and design industry. The course introduces you to different areas of employment within art & design and provides a good basis to move on to level 3 qualifications.
This course is ideal if you enjoy art and design and prefer a more practical route of study.
The course consists of 8 units: 6 mandatory units and 2 specialist optional units.
Mandatory Units: Contextual References, Visual Communication, 3D Visual Communication,
Using Ideas To Explore, Develop and Produce Art & Design, Building An Art & Design Portfolio and Working In The Art & Design Industry.
Specialist Units: Working with Textile Briefs and Working with Graphic Design Briefs
You need 5 GCSE passes at grade D or above including 1 C in an appropriate arts subject or a pass in a Level 1 qualification.
All the units are internally assessed through project work.
Students are requested to make a contribution of £90 towards the cost of studio materials. There are several visits to London galleries and local workshops made throughout the course to support the vocational context of the qualification. Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.
Successful completion of this course can lead onto the BTEC Level 3 Diplomas in Art & Design. The skills you learn on these courses are recognised and highly valued by employers and could lead you onto career paths such as graphic design, advertising, architecture, interior design, jewellery design, photography, textile or fashion design, arts management, museum or gallery work and many more.
