Level 3 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing at Newcastle-under-Lyme College
The aim of this course is to provide a programme of training, leading to a nationally recognised professional qualification for individuals working within the Hairdressing Industry. This qualification would enhance and compliment techniques already attained.
It would benefit individuals who are looking to further develop advanced techniques.
The programme involves a study of technical units and related units at a specialist level including in-depth colour selection, colour correction and colour placement. You will be learning to creatively cut hair and develop your skills in long hair techniques. On some options you will have the opportunity to enter competitions, complete a photo shoot, research customer service practices and develop your management style.
For 16-18 year olds, full-time study will require two days spent in college and some time spent in a salon placement (this is a mandatory requirement of the course). Your English and maths skills will also be enhanced during your programme. For over 19 year olds, full-time study will require just two days spent in college.
You will learn by working in one of the training salons to develop your skills and then in our commercial salon on clients.
You need to have gained a Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing or to have equivalent experience within the industry.
In our commercial salon, carrying out services on clients. You are continually assessed throughout the course by building your portfolio of work, which contains your evidence of your competence in each of the technical and related skills. On the VRQ programme you will have the opportunity to work towards a Pass, Merit or Distinction for each unit you cover.
Newcastle Maintenance Allowance (NMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances.
If you gain a recognised VRQ Level 3 Hairdressing qualification you could then progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship or gain employment within the industry.
You will need to purchase an overall and additional hairdressing equipment. The costs of these items will be discussed with you prior to enrolment. You may be able to claim financial support towards the costs of essential course materials – please see www.nulc.ac.uk/finance.
