Economics A Level at Stepney Green Maths and Computing College
Economics can be studied as a single honours degree course but is also typically studied in combination with politics, philosophy, mathematics, accounting, statistics, management, history, geography or a European/Asian language.
Unit 1: Markets and Market Failure
Basic microeconomic models such as demand and supply, the operation of the price mechanism, and causes of market failure are central to this Module. You will be able to apply their knowledge and skills to a wide variety of situations and to different markets and examples of market failure.
Unit 2: The National Economy
You will gain good knowledge of developments in the UK economy and government policies over the past ten years.
Unit 3: Business Economics & Distribution of Income
You will be required to use and evaluate more complex microeconomic models; for example, perfect competition, monopoly and oligopoly, and to develop further their critical approach to such economic models and methods of enquiry.
Unit 4: The National & International Economy
You will be able to analyse and evaluate the causes of changes in macroeconomic indicators in greater depth. You will gain good knowledge of trends and developments in the economy which have taken place during the past ten years and also have an awareness of earlier events where this helps to give recent developments a longer term perspective.
