History AS A2 at Guilsborough School

Course description

To follow this course you need a genuine interest in History. We have chosen to start our studies with Liberal Italy and Mussolini which is already a strong unit and an interesting and accessible start to A level. The unit on the Spanish Civil War is new for us and is supported by a visit in February of Year 12 to Madrid and Barcelona. This is an exciting time to be taking history as you will have a chance to influence the units we chose to follow at A2, as these units are still under trial/discussion

Course content

You will be expected to read a lot, be able to work independently and in small groups and will be asked to approach your studies through a wide range of activities. A grade B in GCSE History and English would be useful. History A Level is of specific value to anyone contemplating a career in journalism, the armed forces, civil service, law or the political arena.

  • The Collapse of the Liberal State & the Triumph of Fascism in Italy 1896-1943
  • Republicanism, Civil War and Francoism in Spain 1931-75
  • Britain c 1860-1930:The Changing Position of Women and Suffrage Question
