Uniformed Public Services - Level 3 90 Credit Diploma (Full-Time) at Newcastle College

Course description

 The BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma Uniformed Public Services is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success when moving towards a career in the uniformed services.

For example Armed Forces (Navy, Army, Air Force, Marines), Police, Fire Services, NHS (Inc Paramedics) Prison Service, Security, Coast Guard). There will be additional costs to pay, please see course costs for further details.

Learners will select their most suitable route relating to the service they wish to join.  Units have been selected to match career choices and tutor expertise.

Course content

To gain the full BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma, you will have to complete 90 credits. These units are made up of core units and optional units. You must complete the following core units.

• Unit 01: Government, Policies and the Public Services
• Unit 02: Leadership and Teamwork in the Uniformed Public Services
• Unit 03: Citizenship, Diversity in the Public Services
• Unit 04: Understanding Discipline in the Public Services
• Unit 06: Fitness Testing and Training for the Uniformed Public Services

You will also do additional optional units.

Entry requirements

 5 GCSEs A - C including English and Maths. 

A good attitude towards self-development including fitness, working outdoors and meeting deadlines. A good level of organisational skills is required, together with a strong desire to undertake independent research.

If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 6 or above.

Assessment

 There will be a variety of assessment methods including physical fitness testing, psychometric tests, individual and group presentations, group discussions, portfolio building and simulated role play.

Future opportunities

 Personal tutors will guide you throughout your studies to ensure you can move onto the correct form of study or employment.

Students successfully completing this course will be able to extend their study for a further year to gain the additional units for the Extended Diploma in UPS.  At this point they would be able to apply for Higher Education and this could result in an opportunity to gain a commission in your chosen Armed Force.

 

On completion of the course learners will be able to apply to join a range of roles within the armed forces and will provide a stepping stone on a longer term goal of joining the Police, Fire Service or Prison Service


Earn While you Learn with Uniformed Public Services. The UPS section at Newcastle College has a formal partnership with the Royal Navy Reserves and Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, should learners become a reservist they will be able to undertake training with those military services in college time and receive payment. Please note to join the RNR you need to be at least 16 and pass their entry requirements to join the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers you must be 18 and pass their entry requirements.
