Classics AS/A2 Level at Alexandra Park School

Course description

This course immerses students into the values and society of the ancient world and demands they explore a range of literary and historical texts. Throughout the year students will become independent and critical readers, capable of presenting their own ideas and theories regarding the works studied.

Course content

The AS is a one year course consisting of two modules. The full A level is gained by completing two more modules in the second year.

Entry requirements

Students must have at least grade ‘C’ in both English and English Literature. A ‘B’ grade or above in English is preferred.



AS - Written exam 90 minutes - 50% Weighting x 2

A2 - Written exam 120 minutes - 50% Weighting x 2

Future opportunities

An Advanced GCE in Classical Civilisations is welcomed as a qualification for many careers such as law, journalism, advertising, publishing, public relations, marketing, teaching, It is also well-regarded and provides a very wide range of opportunities for courses in the Arts and Humanities at degree level.
