Drama and Theatre Studies A level at The Ecclesbourne School

Course description

This exciting new specification has kept all the excellent qualities that the "old" A Level had. It is largely content free, allowing us to choose texts that best suit the needs, interests and abilities of our own students. The specification encourages creative approaches throughout the course. It offers a mix of theory and practice, and covers all aspects of drama and theatre work. We are also very proud to say that the Drama team at Ecclesbourne has played a large part in writing the new specification and providing support materials.
At AS you will study 2 units. The focus of the first is to use practical drama to explore two contrasting plays. You will also see one live theatre performance and write an evaluation of the performance. Unit 2 offers you the chance to demonstrate the practical skills in a performance environment. You will be able to take on the role of either a performer or theatre designer.
At A2, Unit 3 requires you to create a unique and original piece of theatre, focusing on a group production in response to stimulus material selected by the teacher. Unit 4 is a written module which requires you to study in detail one prescribed play and one historical period of theatre.
