Hospitality & Event Management BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Oaklands College
This is a full time course and is equivalent to A levels. This course will give you a sound understanding of the Hospitality and Catering business including event management and the skills required to make a successful career in this area. The course is designed to lead towards entering Higher Education or industry training at supervisory or management level. The Hospitality and Catering industry has exciting worldwide opportunities!
Students will undertake 19 units over this two year course. These may include: The Hospitality Industry, Principles of Supervising Customer Service Performance in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism, Providing Customer Service in Hospitality, Food and Drinks Service, Food Service Organisation, European Food, Contemporary World Food, Marketing for Hospitality, Personal Selling and Promotional Skills, Personal and Professional Development in Hospitality, Financial Control in Hospitality, Alcoholic Beverage Service, Asian Food, Environment and Sustainability in Hospitality, E-Business for Hospitality, Events Organisation in Hospitality, Planning and Managing a Hospitality Event, Accommodation Operations in Hospitality and an Industry Related Project in Hospitality. In year 1 the course provides a general introduction to the operative levels of hospitality and catering, building in the second year to give students learning and experience in supervisory management. Students will undertake real work experience in the College's Stables restaurant and through links with employers for a minimum of two weeks each year. Dependant on GCSE grades, as part of your study programme, students may be required to study an English and/or maths qualification
You must have a minimum of four GCSEs at A*- C including English or successful completion of a level 2 programme. 95% and above attendance and punctuality are essential to succeed on this course. It is expected that students will need to undertake at least 6-10 hours private study per week.
You should have a genuine interest in Hospitality and Catering and want to develop your skills in this area.
The Level 3 Diploma is assessed in both group and individual assignments, presentations and practical work, some of which are linked to the Colleges Stables Restaurant. Work experience will form a major part of your learning throughout your time at the college.
Students will require uniform and equipment for the course which will cost approximately £100 pounds plus an annual materials charge of approximately £70 .
16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.
The Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality and Event Management can be a stepping stone to a Higher Education in Hospitality or associated fields. It may also lead into employment or industry training at supervisory or management level within the hospitality industry and associated fields such as Marketing, Human Resources and Event Planning and Management
