Course description

AS LEVEL

Unit 1. Portfolio of Creative Skills

Students produce one portfolio that contains evidence of product investigation, product design and manufacture using a range of different materials and processes. Photographic evidence of products must be submitted.

Unit 2. Design & Technology in Practice

Students study theory aspects such as material properties, manufacturing techniques to lay the foundations for coursework.

A2 LEVEL ASSESSED

Unit 3. Design for the Future

Students study aspects of Design Technology such as industrial and commercial practice, smart materials, designing for the future and design movements that have influenced our lives.

Unit 4. Commerical Design

Students product a design and make a portfolio of a commercial product. They identify a client or user group for whom they focus their graphic produce on (with RM content). They should liaise with the client to check the product is commercially viable. Photographic evidence is submitted showing the making process and final outcome.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for a GCE AS/A2 course is 6+ grades A*-B at GCSE or equivalent. For a student to study at GCE AS/A2 a subject that they studied at GCSE they must have achieved at least a grade B in that subject at GCSE where the subject requires previous study
