Geography A level at The Dukeries Academy

Course description

A level consists of three externally examined papers and one coursework component:

Paper 1 - 2 hours (30%)

Tectonic processes and hazards, Coastal Landscapes, The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity. The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security

Paper 2 - 2 hours (30%)

Globalisation, Superpowers, Regenerating Places, Migration Identity and Sovereignty

Paper 3 - 1 hour 45 minutes (20%)

Synoptic Paper on a Geographical issue

Paper 4 - 20%

Independent Research (Coursework) written report

Entry requirements

GCSE Geography grade B. 5 A*-C (level 5 or above) grades at GCSE (including English and Maths).

Future opportunities

This subject can be studied at University or used to accrue UCAS points towards the study of other degree courses. The subject is also able to show employers that you are literate, numerate and able to process information and data in order to problem solve. The course provides opportunities to work independently, in small groups or as a larger team. Geography is an excellent subject to combine with a wide range of other subjects and has a wide variety of career possibilities.
