Media Studies A Level at Hendon School

Course description

Students are expected to have an interest in the media and a passion for analysis. They will be taught how to ‘read’ media texts and to analyse them thoroughly. They will sit an exam in Year 12 which involves the analysis of unseen media as well as essay based responses for a prepared case study. In Year 13, they will use the skills acquired in Year 12 to undertake a critical investigation and a linked practical piece. The exam will focus on relevant theories and debates around digital media and representation as well as an unseen text.

Students are assessed through coursework and exam

Skills / Aptitudes required to be successful in this course :Excellent attention to detail, with an enthusiasm for media. A keen interest in the practical aspects of the media as well as the ability to analyse and apply theory.
