FRENCH GCE A2 LEVEL (AQA) at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School

Course description

The course encourages students to develop an interest in, and an enthusiasm for, language learning. Students develop an awareness and understanding of contemporary French society and learn how to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in the language. The course aims to enable students to take their place in a multilingual global society. Topics studied at A2 are Environment, Multiculturalism, Contemporary Social Issues as well as a Cultural/Literary Topic.

Entry requirements

At least grade D in AS level French

Languages can lead directly to a career in translation, interpretation or teaching but can be an advantage in any area of work where there is a need to deal effectively with people or companies beyond our own borders (law, accountancy, engineering and many more). Many degree courses now include a language element, especially in the areas of law, business and science. A language qualification in the global twenty-first century is a real asset. It enhances most job applications. You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to French or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your French to study or work over in France. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector. You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in French, Languages or more general higher education courses.
