Furniture Making Level 1 (1st year) at Chichester College

Course description

A multi-disciplined Further education and training college focused entirely on student success. We are now officially ranked as 'Outstanding' following a recent inspection from Ofsted. The Furniture team welcomes you to join a course that sits amongst the best in the country. A true centre of excellence designed entirely around 1 primary objective: To bring out the very best you can be. 

Course content

Level 1 diploma in Furniture comprising predominantly practical hand skills (80%) with associated learning including Health and Safety, Sustainability, Timber Technology, Veneering methods. We also look at Career Pathways and Furniture Design. If you are aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme consisting of your main qualification, English and maths, enterprise and enrichment.

 
Dedicated lecturers who will guide you through the course in both the workshop and the classroom. 

Entry requirements

We are an inclusive college and always do our best to accommodate all learners. If you are a school leaver, Maths and English G.C.S.E's at Grade C or above would be an advantage but not essential. Come and talk to us, it's the best way to find out more! 

Assessment

Assessment will be through grading on your practical projects, through short answer question papers and online tests.

Future opportunities

Progression routes into the industry as well as Level 2 Wood Machining. Looking further, the option to study either Furniture Design and Making or Restoration at Level 3. Higher Education is also possible right the way up to Phd.
