Music Technology at The Hollyfield School and Sixth Form Centre
There are two units for each of AS and A2 in the Edexcel specification. At AS level there is
- Sequenced Realised Performance, multi track recording and a cretive sequenced arrangement
- listening and analysing
At A2 there is
- Sequence integrated performance, multi trakc recording and composing using music technology
- analysing and producing.
You will need an interest in popular music to be successful on this course.
AS Course: For the new AS Level GCE in Music Technology the focus is on practical work and encourages the cultivation of a wide range of skills. Students will have opportunities to sequence MIDI and audio, record live instruments, produce CDs and compose using Music Technology. Two areas of study underpin the AS: The Principles and Practice of Music Technology and Popular Music Styles since 1910. Students will be asked to provide a Portfolio of three practical tasks which will be externally assessed and will be worth 70% of the AS. The further 30% will be made up of a Listening and Analysing externally marked exam in June. A2 Course: For the new A2 level GCE students extend study into the areas started at AS and will also study: The Development of Technology-based music. The aim of this area of study is to help students understand more about the development and influence of technology on music since 1910. Students will be required to submit a portfolio of three tasks which will be worth 60%. The further 40% will be made up from an externally marked exam.
GCSE C or above in Music
By examination only.
Either progression onto further study on music or music technology courses.
