Support Teaching & Learning Advanced Apprenticeship at West Herts College

Course description

This apprenticehsip is aimed at employees who are working and providing support in the classroom and works on adding responsibility to the role. You could help plan, carry out and evaluate a wide range of learning activities. You’ll be working as part of a team and will be supervised by a teacher or SENCO representative.

Course content

Examples of subject areas include:

Support numeracy development Observe and promote pupil performance and development Support children and young people’s play Contribute to assessment for learning Plan, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning activities under the direction of a teacher

The qualification is achieved by gaining practical experience at work. You will also be required to achieve a Level 2 award in English, maths and ICT and complete a workbook relating to employment rights and responsibilities.

Entry requirements

Employment at a suitable level - most employers ask for GCSEs in English and maths, but may have additional specific requirements. You will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a reference from your current employer.

Future opportunities

This course is a good stepping-stone to a foundation degree or Higher Level Teaching Assistant training.
