Computer Games Development BTEC Level 3 at Lancaster and Morecambe College
This course introduces you to all aspects of computer games development, both practical and theoretical. The course is for anyone with an interest in the way games are developed and looking for a career in a range of jobs in the computer gaming industry. The course is suitable for those interested in computing and for those with an interest in art, design and media.
You will study the following 8 core units: • Pre-Production Techniques for the Creative Media Industries • Communication Skills for Creative Media Production • Research Techniques for the Creative Media Industries • Creative Media Production Management Project • Working to a Brief in the Creative Media Industries • Critical Approaches to Creative Media Products • Understanding the Computer Games Industry • 3D Modelling • 3D Environments Computer Game Platforms and Technologies and 11 optional units, such as: • Computer game engines • Computer Game Design • Sound for Computer Games • Graphic Narrative Production • Human-Computer Interfaces for Computer Games • Flash for Computer Games • Digital Graphics for Computer Games • 3D Animation • Computer game story development • Drawing concept art • Interactive media design This is a practical course made up of 19 units. These units give you the practical/technical skills to go on to either higher education or possible jobs in the computer gaming industry and also a theoretical understanding of the way games are designed. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths, English if not already awarded an A*-C in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into Further or Higher education, training or employment.
5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and maths OR a Level 2 related qualification. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager
This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods all of which aim to provide you with an interesting and varied portfolio.
Students will be required to make a contribution towards trips and special events. Also students will be expected to pay £30.00 at the start of the course. A mobile storage device i.e. USB stick, external and/or online storage is essential.
The course can lead to employment but most students will go on to study higher education at HND, Foundation Degree or Degree Level. Your tutors will help you with progression opportunities
You will be expected to undertake regular home study on this course.
