IT Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate at Northallerton School & Sixth Form College

Course description

This qualification is for students who would like study IT in a context that allows them to learn and be assessed in ways that are practical and relevant to the IT sector. Students will learn how to develop systems for employers or the systems for their customers, use IT as a tool to analyse data and develop applications. The qualification is designed to give students a range of specialist knowledge and transferable skills in the field context of applied IT. 

Course content

Students are expected  to be well organised and develop good independent learning skills. There is a mixture of theory and practical lessons, independent study, case studies and IT workshops. 
Year 12
Unit 1: Fundamentals of IT
Unit 2: Global Information
Unit 3: Cyber Security
Year 13
Unit 9: Product Development
Unit 12 : Mobile Technology 

Entry requirements

5 GCSE'S C or above (including English and Maths grade 4 or above)


Three of the units are externally examined, the rest are coursework based.

Future opportunities

This qualification will equip you to further your studies in IT/computing. You will develop a broad skill set that is applicable to a wide range of university courses or any role involving use of IT.
