Course description

At Treviglas we offer the Single (1 A LEVEL) course which has four core units  including Developing Effective Communication Skills, Equality and Diversity, Human Lifespan Development and Health and Safety. We also offer  personalised Health Promotion and Counselling Skills units.

The Double (2 A LEVEL) course includes a 100 hour Work Experience programme, Psychology, Sociology and Anatomy and Physiology units.

Course content

What does it involve?

100% coursework – 6 units to complete for the Single course and 12 units to complete for the Double course. The Double course does include a 100 hour work experience unit. This is a great opportunity to gain experience for applications to courses such as Nursing, Teaching and Social Work.


Entry requirements

GCSE Maths and English C or above.

Health and Social Care level 2 would be an advantage.


100% Coursework

Assessment takes a case study approach. Questions are set which require you to show understanding and an ability to analyse the information    provided. A combination of assessment techniques will be used: reports, presentations, publisher publications, role play, essays and structured questioning. Wherever possible work will be contextualised and applied to a local scenario.

Future opportunities

Health and social care courses offer a great pathway into employment. You can choose from a wide range jobs, such as care for people with mental illness, nursing, radiography, teaching and lots more!

Through the double course, you’ll get a really good understanding of the sector as it includes a work placement.

You’ll meet people from across different job roles when they visit to talk to your class. You will also be offered the opportunity to complete a range of related qualifications including Heart Start, Peer Counselling and St Johns First Aid.
