Health and Social Care Level 2 BTEC Diploma at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

The course covers a wide range of subjects including:

  • Communication and individual rights within the health and social care sectors
  • Individual needs within the health and social care sectors
  • Vocational experience in a health and social care setting
  • Human lifespan development
  • The impact of diet on health within the health and social care sectors

 

Optional units include health care for children, older service users, disabilities, first aid, nutrition and creative activities.

Students will be expected to attend and complete block placements in an area of health and social care and will have the opportunity to upgrade GCSE results.

Students may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built into the programme.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English and Maths. 

It is a requirement of the course for all students to have a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to enable them to undertake the work placement.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local businesses wherever possible.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

This course is a recognised route onto a Level 3 course, students should aim for a merit or distinction grade to ensure progression.  Students will be expected to upgrade their GCSEs (where applicable) if they wish to progress.

Each course offers appropriate work experience to complement the knowledge and skills you will learn at college.

Optional trips may be arranged during the period of this course, these will have a cost attached.
