Construction and Civil Engineering Level 2 Diploma at Accrington and Rossendale College

Course description

This course is a practical based subject with an emphasis on General Construction activities including Drainage, Concreting, Flagging, Kerbing and Block Paving and related subjects such as Health and Safety and Site Security. The theory sessions will underpin your practical work by covering Health & Safety, Trade Technology and related subjects.

You will also work towards achieving Functional Skills Level 1 in both English and maths.

Course content

Much of the theory content and written work of this course will be available on-line through the College’s “itslearning” virtual learning environment. Candidates must be prepared to use IT as part of their learning.
There will also be opportunities for industrial visits relevant to the course.

Entry requirements

You will need to have completed Level 1 Diploma in General Construction Operations and have GCSEs at grades D or above in English and Mathematics. You will need to attend a College interview and complete an initial assessment.


Assessment of the qualification will be by online end of unit theory tests and practical tests for each unit of study.

Financial information

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds.

This course will cost a maximum of £480 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course, progression can be either onto the professional construction route such as BTEC extended diploma in construction or onto another practical trade area such as brickwork, joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating, plastering etc.
