Science (Single Award) GCSE at Warlingham School

Course description

The single award scheme has been developed by the AQA - Syllabus. The course demonstrates the relevance of science to modern day life. It is suited to students of all abilities and allows students to study Science through an enquiring, investigative approach. The course is divided into six modules, three modules in Year 10 and three in Year 11. They are divided into Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics. To be taught alongside entry level Science, resulting in bronze, silver and gold certificates. Year 10 units Year 11 units Life and Living ProcessesEnvironment, Inheritance and Selection Materials and Reactions Patterns and Reactions Energy and Electricity Forces, Waves and Radiation How will I be assessed? The three modules in Year 10 are tested on dates set by the examination board. The first module is tested in November, the second in early March and the final one in June . The actual dates will be given to parents early in the Autumn Term of Year 10. The practical investigations are assessed during Years 10 and 11. The final examination at the end of Year 11 in June is taken at either Foundation or Higher level (each option covers a different range of grades).
