Enhance your employment opportunities by progressing on the Horticulture Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship and learn the very best skills and theory knowledge. The horticulture industry offers many opportunities from potting and cultivating plants, to designing and maintaining soft and hard landscaping.  With two pathways available, Production Horticulture or Landscaping, you could be working for a large garden Centre maintaining and growing plants or for a council doing grounds maintenance or even working for a landscaper who maintains planting schemes and builds paths, fences and patios in domestic gardens. Train in roles such as a senior gardener, deputy head groundsman, and greenkeeper and parks officer.

Course content

Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture units include:
 
• Design Landscape Areas 
• Estimate & Plan Resource Requirements 
• Seed Propagation 
• Prepare Sites for Soft Landscape Establishments 
• Safe Use & Application of Pesticides 
• Supervisory/Management Skills

• Functional Skills in Maths & English 
• Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) 
• Employee Rights & Responsibilities 
• Specialist certificates by negotiation
 

Entry requirements

  • Employment within the industry
  • Horticulture Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2
 

Assessment

An assessor will visit the workplace regularly to assess your competence and to help you build a portfolio of evidence. At Level 2 you will attend college one day per week during the winter months to complete the Technical Certificate and complete a final exam. At Level 3 you need to be highly organised as there is no College attendance and you will need to be managing a small team of people.
