Diploma in Financial Services at Sawtry Village Academy

Course description

A Diploma in Financial Services is a multi-layered course offering both a theoretical examination of financial services and practical help in understanding future personal finance needs.  It is NOT an accounting course.

In today’s complex financial world, a developed knowledge of the changing financial needs of an individual is a vital skill.  Further, students will develop an understanding the banking system.

Assessment is through multiple choice papers which will include the use of data analysis.  There will also be a written paper based on a case study.

The course will be delivered through a mixture of taught sessions, discussions/seminars and independent learning.

 The following business themes will be studied;

·         Why money matters

·         Risk and reward in personal finance

·         Making personal financial judgements

Entry requirements

Average points score of 38+ and at least grade C in GCSE English and/ or maths. It is not a requirement of entry that GCSE Business Studies has been taken.

Future opportunities

There are very few careers where an understanding of how businesses work will not be helpful.  The knowledge and skills developed are useful in any workplace or could inspire you to set up your own business.  Many of our students continue to study Business at University or a linked subject such as Marketing, Accounting and Finance, Human Resources or Operations Management.  Apprenticeships are another alternative with a number of our students successfully gaining places with large accountancy firms amongst other areas.  The Diploma is a recognised financial services qualification.
