10 Star at Wrenn Academy

Course content

This course has been very successful for the pupils who have been involved. It has evolved many times over the years to reflect changes and demands. It has recently been re-named 10 STAR. The course is varied, challenging and interesting. It covers some of the national Curriculum subjects plus others and has a strong vocational thread. Emphasis is put on the key skills. Expectations are high. The Course is designed for those pupils who are unlikely to achieve in a large number of G.C.S.E. exams, and for those who would benefit from individual attention in a small group. Pupils can achieve some GCSEs, Entry level certificates, an ASDAN Award, college certificates and vocational qualifications. If you are accepted for this course: · you will help you make decisions about the work you will do; · you will take part in courses at Wellingborough College and at Moulton College; · you will take part in Community Service; · you will take part in two sessions of Work Experience; · you will go on visits out of school, including probably staying away from home; · you will participate in the Youth Award Scheme · you will complete some foundation level courses. It must be remembered that this course is by invitation and only open to those on the Special Needs register. Participation will be dependant upon liaison with parents. Pupils may be approached by the Special Needs staff and the course discussed directly.
