Uniformed Services Diploma Level 3 at Canterbury College Not

Course description

This course is ideal for people wishing to follow a career in the Public Services or progress to Higher Education in the subject. You will meet Public Service professionals, visit external agencies and have the opportunities for residential trips with the military.

Being in Public Services is more than just a job, it requires a different ethos, culture and commitment, so from day one, these themes will be used to educate and prepare you for work in the Public Services. You will be expected to wear uniform every day, in line with many Public Services and conduct yourself in a manner befitting a public servant. This will include: respect, teamwork and discipline.

Course content

During your one-year programme you will have the opportunity to research and learn about a selection of integral units including: teamwork & leadership, land navigation, sport & fitness, Public Service skills and many others. You will also gain skills in teamwork, communication, leadership, fitness, resilience, honesty, enthusiasm, commitment, discipline, respect as well as improving confidence.

If you start the course without GCSE C or above in Mathematics and/or English Language, you will have to complete a Maths and/or English qualification as part of your Study Programme. This will consist of up to three hours of classes for each subject per week.

Entry requirements

You must have 4 x GCSEs C and above (including English Language) however experience and other attributes will be considered for this course. All applicants must successfully pass the department assessment centre.

Through a combination of practical work, presentations, practical observations, a portfolio of assignments, case studies and tests.

Further information

All students will also have the opportunity to listen to external speakers and visit Public Service establishments and take part in residential trips with the Military.

As this course requires something different from you, we run a two-day assessment centre that all applicants must attend. The assessment centre will aim to test your suitability for a Public Services course and give you an insight into the life of a Public Service student. We do this because not all people are suitable for this profession. We will be looking at your academic capabilities, teamwork & leadership skills and general qualities against those of the Public Services. After successfully passing the assessment centre and gaining the necessary qualifications, you will be invited to enrol.

The requirements of attending the course are as follows:

  • Uniform (list of uniform will be provided at enrolment)
