Painting and Decorating - CSkills Awards Level 2 Diploma in Painting and Decorating at Calderdale College

Course description

To provide the candidate with a broad knowledge, understanding and skill training to become qualified within Painting and Decorating. The qualification is aimed at those individuals wishing to join the construction industry as Painters and Decorators. Delivered at Calderdale College.

Course content

This is a practical course, some of the course units are:

  • Know how to carry out safe working practices in construction 
  • Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
  • Prepare for and decorate a room including doors and balustrades
  • Produce specialist decorative finishes
  • Apply standard papers to walls and ceilings
  • Apply paint systems by brush and roller to complex areas

There are 8 units to complete which includes an external test and practical assessments at the end of each unit. At the end of this qualification you will have a good degree of knowledge of Painting and Decorating and this Level is considered trade competent.

Entry requirements

Level 1 Diploma or NVQ 1 Decorative Occupations.  Applicants with no formal qualifications but relevant work experience will be considered. You will need to be working at Level 1 Mathematics.

Assessment

Theory - Job knowledge test for each unit
Practical - continual assessment of practical work throughout the year.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

All successful students may have the opportunity to progress onto Painting and Decorating Occupations at Diploma Level 3 or an NVQ Level 3 through the work based evidence route. Employment opportunities could include an apprenticeship in your chosen trade area.
