Course description

Mathematics is now the most popular A-level nationally (2014). It is highly regarded as a facilitating subject (Russell University Group), and is a requirement for many science, engineering, finance& computer programming degree courses (see list below). Further Mathematics A2 level is challenging qualification, which both extends and deepens your knowledge and understanding beyond the standard A level Mathematics. It allows students to distinguish themselves as able mathematicians and aids the transition from sixth form to university courses which are mathematically rich.

Course content

All students must study this content: Mathematical argument, language and proof, Mathematical problem solving and Mathematical modelling

Entry requirements

Minimum grade B equivalent at GCSE (Further Mathematics requires minimum grade A equivalent). To build upon existing knowledge students complete a starter pack supplied during enrolment. In addition to attending all lessons, students must be prepared to study independently and commit fully in any intervention that may be required to support their progress.

Assessment

This qualification is linear. Linear means that students will sit all their exams at the end of the course. Students sit three papers at the end of Year 13 achieving an A Level in Mathematics.

How A - Level Paper 1 is assessed: Written exam: 2 hours 100 marks 33⅓ % of A-level Questions A mix of question styles, from short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems.
