Dance at Knutsford Academy

Course description

AS Assessment is based on TWO units: Unit 1 – Understanding Dance (40% of total AS marks, 20% of total A level marks) Written paper, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Two essay style questions covering the knowledge of the dancer as a performer, the process and craft of choreography and the significance of dances. Unit 2 – Choreography and Performance (60% of total AS marks, 30% of total A level marks) Two section practical comprising solo choreography and performance, and duo/trio performance. A2 Assessment is based on two practical examinations and a terminal written exam: Unit 3 – Appreciation and Context (25% of total A Level marks) Written Paper, 1 hour and 30 minutes. Two questions, one on a chosen area of study and one on the set work studied. This unit focuses on critical analysis and appreciation. Unit 4 – Group Choreography and Solo Performance (25% of total A Level marks) Two section practical comprising group choreography and a solo performance piece.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades C or above including Dance or Expressive Arts
