Dance A level at King Edward VI Sixth Form College

Course description

Dance is an exciting subject that challenges you physically, academically and creatively. Throughout the course you will widen your experience and knowledge of dance through technique lessons, creative exploration and theoretical analysis.

In the AS year you will complete practical coursework where you will be required to choreograph and perform a solo piece and perform in a choreographed duet or trio. You will also complete a written examination assessing your knowledge of professional dance works and ability to analyse the performance in relation to the subject matter or dance idea. In addition you will examine the dancer as a choreographer and performer, exploring the tools and skills needed to create dances and how you train and rehearse for performance. The A2 year builds on these skills and becomes more focused on an area of study and a set dance work.

Entry requirements

No specific qualifications are required for this course, but you should have recent experience in dance from a dance or theatre school or have taken GCSE Dance.
